Formatting differences happen because Word and PDF use different layout engines. To avoid issues: Before exporting, go to File → Options → Advanced → Print and check “Print layout view.” Use standard fonts like Arial or Times New Roman — custom fonts may not embed properly. Under Save As → Options, make sure “PDF/A compliant” is unchecked if you want dynamic text rather than fixed layout. Avoid using text boxes that overlap or floating images — they sometimes shift in PDFs. 👉 Tip: Always review the final PDF before sending or uploading it.
Hyperlinks are preserved automatically when using Word’s built-in “Save As PDF” function — but only if they are properly formatted: Ensure the link starts with https:// or mailto:; plain text URLs won’t stay clickable. Avoid saving via “Print to PDF” — that turns the file into a static image and removes links. After conversion, open the PDF and test your hyperlinks in Adobe Reader or Chrome to confirm they’re active.
